About Us
Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI) is the umbrella cross-disability
organization mandated to promote the human rights of all persons with
disabilities through full participation, equalization of opportunity
and international cooperation. Since its establishment in 1981, DPI
has grown dramatically and now boasts national assemblies in 135 countries
and Regional Development Offices in five regions (Europe, Asia-Pacific,
Africa, Latin America and North America-Caribbean).
The logo for last year’s Ratification Toolkit honored the 6
th World Assembly in Sapporo, Japan, during which DPI was mandated
by its members to actively participate in the negotiations on the Convention.
Now, with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
a reality, we are honored to use the logo for DPI’s 7 th World
Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, to signify the discussions and strategies
that will be developed during that event to further ratification and
implementation of this historic Treaty. Developed by DPI-Korea and
the Korean Organizing Committee, this logo inspires one to look ahead
to a better future for persons with disabilities worldwide.
This Implementation Toolkit is a sister to last year’s Ratification
Toolkit and, once again, was developed by DPI with the generous support
of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. It is DPI’s hope
that persons with disabilities and DPI National Assemblies will find
within it the information needed to be part of the implementation of
the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
